"If nothing else, the fact that I live on two different continents gives me the right to paint in different styles. I consider these approaches to be complementary rather than opposing. “I reject the notion that an artist must produce the same work of art over and over to be considered valid. For me, adherence to this rigid idea brings stagnation and is a sort of insanity. “Painting from nature is a technical, learnable process. I still find places and subjects that demand to be painted as they are. The light and shadows have to be studied and the colors mixed correctly. This kind of painting can have a broad appeal and offers its own sense of reward. However, there is something inside me that finds a different sort of satisfaction in more imaginative painting."
“Il fatto che vivo tra due culture diverse mi dà il diritto di dipingere in stili diversi. Invece che contrapporsi, penso che questi due modi di lavorare siano complementari. Rifiuto l'idea che un artista debba produrre sempre lo stesso tipo di lavoro per essere considerato valido. Per me seguire questa rigida convinzione porta solo al soffocamento della creatività ed è una specie di pazzia. Dipingere in modo realistico, osservando la natura è un processo che richiede tecnica e può essere appreso. Trovo ancora soggetti che chiedono di essere dipinti così come sono. Le luci e le ombre devono essere studiate ed i colori usati correttamente. Questo genere di pittura trova un notevole riscontro presso il grande pubblico e offre una gratificazione unica all'autore. Però, una pittura più inventiva genera delle emozioni personali molto diverse."
